Why should you insist on the SAFETY Mark?

The SAFETY Mark indicates that the product’s design has been tested and certified to comply with the relevant safety standards. For most appliance categories, the SAFETY Mark also shows that internal safeguards have been incorporated to protect against fire and electrical hazards. Read More….


An 80-year-old man, his wife, 66, and their son, 45, died following an incident in the elderly couple's flat in Lakeside on Thursday (Dec 10).
From 2014 to the end of end-2021, four separate electrocution incidents occurred in HDB flats, involving five deaths and one injury. Of the four cases, one involved an electrical circuit without RCCB and two courses with faulty circuit breakers. HDB does not have data on such incidents before 2014.

Instant, or tankless, water heaters, as the name implies, supply hot water instantly because the water flows through a heating element powered by electricity. 

Instant or tankless is commonly found in Housing and Development Board (HDB) flats as they take up little space and cost.

As for storage, water heaters take up more space but provide a steady flow of hot water at higher pressures — ideal for rain showers and bathtubs. Water is heated and stored in the storage tank and reheated when needed. 

The utmost importance is to look for the safety mark, The Consumer Protection (Safety Requirements) Regulations (CPSR) requires 33 categories of household electrical, electronic and gas appliances & accessories, also known as Controlled Goods, to be tested to specified safety standards and affixed with the SAFETY Mark before they can be sold in Singapore. These include testing for safety measures against fire, electric shock, explosion and other hazards that could result in injury, death or property damage.


ALWAYS HIRE LICENSED ELECTRICIANS AND PLUMBERS

For your safety, electrical work should be done by licensed electrical workers. In contrast, licensed plumbers should do water service and sanitary plumbing to ensure safety.
